General engineering company Austin & McLean Limited was founded in 1937 by brothers William and Harold Austin. The Factories Act of the same year presented an opportunity to develop Austin & McLean into a specialist engineering company by including the requirement for businesses to have lifting equipment tested and routinely inspected.

There have been many changes in over sixty years of trading, but Lifting Equipment Engineering remains at the core of our business. The Austin family continue to own and run the company.

Locations
Our headquarters and workshops are in Bournemouth UK and we have a major test house and repair facility in the West of England. In addition, we run three satellite workshops in conjunction with major clients.

We are quality assured to BS EN ISO 9001:2000 and are founding members of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association who set, maintain and approve our technical standards. Besides setting high standards of quality in lifting equipment and its servicing, the LEEA also ensures safety in use; a philosophy upon which our business is founded.
